A man has been arrested after €1.8m worth of herbal cannabis was seized in Co Louth.

Around 90kg of the drug was discovered as part of an intelligence-led operation.

The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue's Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Louth Divisional Drugs Unit.

Gardaí also arrested a man in his 50s who is currently being detained at a garda station in the county under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act.

Gardaí have said that the drugs seized will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis and investigations remain ongoing.
