Two remanded after drugs worth almost €400,000 seized in Co Louth

Two men have been remanded in custody in connection with the alleged seizure of almost €400,000 worth of drugs in Co Louth.

The two men were arrested by gardaí as part of an operation targeting alleged drug distribution networks and associated criminal activity.

Lee McBride, 46, of Kiltole, Convoy, Lifford, Co Donegal is charged with possession of over €200,000 worth of cocaine for sale or supply after the van he was driving was stopped by gardaí in the county last night.

After there was no application for bail, Judge Stephanie Coggans remanded the accused in custody to appear before Dundalk District Court on Tuesday.

The second man, who is 50 years old and cannot be named due to reporting restrictions, was charged with possession of over €196,000 worth of cannabis at a location in the county in the early hours of this morning.

The court was told that the drugs were found in a suitcase behind the rear garden wall of a property.

Following a contested bail hearing, Judge Coggans remanded the man in custody to appear again on Tuesday before Dundalk District Court.

Applications for legal aid were granted for both of the accused.

The court heard all of the alleged drugs seized are subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.
