671 motorists detected speeding on National Slow Down Day

Gardaí say that so far, 671 motorists have been detected speeding during National Slow Down Day.

The speed enforcement operation started at midnight and will conclude at midnight tonight.

In Waterford, a motorist was detected doing 95km/h in a 50km/h zone on the R680 Cork Road.

Another driver was travelling at 129km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N18, in Bunratty, Co Clare, while on the R147 in Dunboyne in Co Meath a motorist was found travelling at 98km/h in a 60km/h zone.

In Castleblayney in Co Monaghan a motorist was detected doing 85km/h in a 60km/h zone, with another vehicle was found to be doing 78km/h in a 60km/h zone on the L2115, in Barnaderg in Co Galway.

Gardaí say National Slow Down Day is designed to remind motorists of the dangers of speeding and to encourage a national conversation on the impact of speeding.
