Galway crime writer Ken Bruen dies aged 74

The death has been announced of Galway crime writer, Ken Bruen.

The 74-year-old author published more than 50 works and is best known for his Jack Taylor crime novels.

Nine of these books were adapted for the acclaimed long-running TV series shot around Galway city.

He is a past winner of the prestigious Shamus Award for Best Crime Novel of the year.

Ken Bruen was born in Galway in 1951 and educated at Gormanstown College in Co Meath. He later attended Trinity College Dublin where he completed a PhD in Metaphysics.

He is survived by his wife Phyl Kennedy and daughter Grace.
