It is estimated that close to 50,000 people lined the streets of Galway for the main parade in the west.

It featured more than 70 different clubs, organisations and community groups that brought a riot of colour and sound to the city streets.

Starting from the University of Galway and making its way to Eyre Square before concluding at the Dyke Road, the parade featured over 3,000 participants drawn from every corner of the city.

Musician Sharon Shannon was grand marshal and led proceedings on an open-top bus before joining local dignitaries at the reviewing stand.

Canadian actor Eugene Levy, best known for his roles in the television series Schitt's Creek and the American Pie film, was given the hastily devised title of 'International Guest of Honour’ after he joined in the celebrations while filming part of an Apple TV travel show.

It will feature a segment on Galway when it airs later this year.

Accompanied by his wife Deborah Divine, Mr Levy made a brief appearance at the reviewing stand before returning to his work on the programme.

The 2025 parade was notionally themed around Galway’s coastal surroundings and its maritime heritage, but there were few outward references to this visible among the record contingent of visitors.

Instead, the community endeavours of sporting organisations, voluntary groups and the city’s multicultural ambience were to the fore during the 90-minute parade.
