Gardaí have arrested a man following the alleged serious assault of an elderly woman in her home in Co Longford last month.
The incident, which is alleged to have happened in Edgeworthstown, was reported to gardaí on 25 February.
In a statement, Gardaí said they arrested a man in his 30s this morning.
"The man, aged in his 30s, is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in the Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Division."
Gardaí can question and detain the man for a period of up to 24 hours.
