A 17-year-old boy has appeared in court charged in relation to a serious assault in Cavan town.

The teenager appeared before Monaghan District Court.

A man in his 20s remains in a critical condition following the alleged assault that occurred on Friday night just before midnight outside a licensed premises on the Main Street of Cavan town.

The teenager appeared before Judge Raymond Finnegan at Monaghan District Court.

He was charged with assault causing harm on 14 February outside a bar at Main Street, Abbeylands, Cavan town.

The accused was remanded on bail with a number of conditions attached.

The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, will appear before Cavan District Court on 20 March to allow for directions from the Director of Public Prosecution.
