A 31-year-old man extradited through a European Arrest Warrant from Northern Ireland earlier this week has appeared before a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of two teenagers.
Ricky Fagan was charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of 17-year-old Nathan Fullerton and 18-year-old Nathan Farrell at Quigley's Point on 29 April, 2017.
He was further charged with the possession of cocaine, and possessing the drug with intent of sale or supply relating to an incident at Mulberry Avenue, Buncrana, on 10 July, 2020.
He was remanded in custody, after Garda Sergeant Graham Morgan of Carndonagh Garda Station said he was objecting to bail on a number of grounds.
Sgt Morgan said that the State had 'grave concerns" about bail being granted.
Judge Ciaran Liddy refused bail noting the seriousness of the charges.
The judge said he accepted that Mr Fagan had surrendered his passport, but could "walk across the border unchecked and on balance is a flight risk".
Mr Fagan, with a previous address in Buncrana, was arrested in Northern Ireland on 15 September, 2022 and was extradited to the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.
He is the alleged driver of a car in which Mr Fullerton and Mr Farrell were travelling in on the way home from a disco, along with two other friends, on 29 April, 2017.
The car collided with a wall and a tree on the Quigley’s Point to Moville Road at around 3.35am.
Mr Fagan was remanded in custody to appear by video link to Letterkenny District Court on 4 February.
