A man in his 40s has died after he was hit by a car just before 11pm last night on the N54 at Plush, Cloverhill, Co Cavan.
The pedestrian's body has been taken to Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was uninjured.
Investigations are ongoing, and gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The road remains closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 10.30pm and 11pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
