The daughter of former minister Noel Dempsey was elected on the fifth count, securing 8,806 votes.
She defeated Fine Gael's Linda Nelson Murray, who had hoped to retain the seat formerly held by her party colleague Damien English.
Sinn Féin's Johnny Guirke topped the poll to retain his seat and Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín was elected second, retaining the seat he has held here since 2011.

In total, Sinn Féin, Aontú and Fianna Fáil secured a seat each.
