Man charged in connection with deaths of three family members in crash

A 23-year-old man has appeared in court in Co Tipperary charged in connection with a road traffic collision in Cashel in August of last year, in which three members of his family were killed.

Thomas O'Reilly Junior of Waller’s Lot, Cashel, Co Tipperary, appeared before the District Court in the town, charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of his three-year-old son Tom, his 45-year-old father Thomas O'Reilly Snr and his 46-year-old mother Bridget.

All three were back seat passengers in a car driven by Mr O'Reilly which crashed into a wall near the Kingston area of Cashel at around 9pm on 29 August 2023.

Another person, a woman aged in her 20s, was also injured in the crash but recovered.

The court heard Mr O'Reilly Jnr made no reply when charged.

Judge John Brennan was told the DPP has ruled that the matter be sent forward to be dealt with at Tipperary Circuit Court on indictment.

He agreed to adjourn the matter until next month.

Mr O'Reilly Jnr was granted free legal aid and remanded on his own bail of €200 to appear in court again on 19 December for service of the book of evidence.
