Man arrested after teen injured in Antrim assault

A man has been arrested after a teenager was left in a critical condition following a serious assault in Co Antrim.

19-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital after being found in Main Street in Waterfoot in the early hours of this morning.

Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent.

PSNI were alerted around 1.25am and when they arrived they found the man unconscious in the street.

It is believed there may have been a fight in a nearby pub which spilled out into the street.

The man was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

Detective Chief Inspector McGuiness said: "Our investigation is at an early stage, and we would appeal to anyone who may have been in the licenced premises or the Main Street area at the time that the incident took place to contact us".

Officers remain in the area and the road is still closed.
