High tide has passed in Cork city centre with some flooding and road pooling in low lying areas in the city centre.
Access to a number of city quays has been curtailed by Cork City Council crews, including Union Quay and access from Parliament Bridge to Fr Mathew Quay.
Earlier, the local authority issued a warning to businesses and householders to take measures to protect their properties given a period of very high astronomical spring tides and a tidal surge from today until Sunday.
The local authority has advised that measures be put in place to protect individual properties before high tide today, tomorrow, and Friday evening, leaving them in place overnight.
Areas which are likely to be impacted include Morrison's Quay, Fr Mathew Quay and Street, Union Quay, Trinity Bridge, South Terrace, Rutland Street, Sawmill Street, Crosses Green, Sharman Crawford Street, Wandesford Quay and the South Mall (particularly, the southern side).
In addition to these, road flooding is also likely to occur today, tomorrow and Friday at high tides on the quays in the city centre including Kyrls Quay, Lavitts Quay, Lapps Quay, Proby's Quay, French's Quay and Sullivan's Quay.

Cork City Council said it will post regular updates on its social media.
The high tide today will occur at 5.28pm and at 5.48am and 6.12pm tomorrow.
On Friday, the high tide will occur at 6.32am and 6.55pm.
The high tide on Saturday will occur at 7.15am and 7.38pm, with high tides on Sunday at 7.58am and 8.20pm.
High tides warning in Waterford
Waterford City and County Council has said very high spring tides are expected from this Thursday to Saturday.
The council said it is "actively monitoring the situation" and that flood defence barriers will be erected in Passage East, if needed.
A tidal surge is also forecast for Sunday morning and the council said flood defence barriers may be required in both Waterford city and Passage East.
