A playground in Wexford town has been closed following a fire over the weekend.
The fire happened at Redmond Park around 10.30pm on Saturday night.
Wexford Fire Brigade said a fire in the play tunnel in the playground was brought under control and sealed off until an inspection can be carried out on the equipment.
This inspection will be carried out in the coming days.
Gardaí said no one was injured and the incident is under investigation.
Mayor of Wexford George Lawlor said the park was closed for health and safety reasons following the fire.
He said that an assessment will be carried out by Wexford County Council and footage from CCTV cameras, which were installed over the summer, would be reviewed.
"I'm conscious that at this time of year such incidents can occur, but we expect the public to respect the wonderful facilities we have here.
"We had hoped that the recently installed CCTV would deter this type of vandalism, but we can check the cameras now and hope to identify anyone who may have been involved," he said.
Mr Lawlor added the council will aim to get the park back open as soon as possible.
Independent councillor Leonard Kelly visited the site yesterday and said that scorch marks could be seen on the ground near a tunnel in the playground and that it was "totally destroyed".
He said that other playground equipment was also damaged as a result of the fire.
Cllr Kelly described the incident as "very disappointing" as the playground is very popular.
He called for CCTV footage to be reviewed and for more cameras to be installed to prevent further incidents.
Cllr Kelly added that there had been individual instances of "nasty" vandalism in the past in different parts of the park.
Gardai have appealed to any witnesses, or anyone with information on the incidne, to contact Wexford Garda Station at 053 916 5200 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
