An Irish man has been killed in a workplace accident in Australia.

The 35-year-old, who was originally from Co Donegal, was working on a construction site in Perth when the accident occurred earlier today.

It is understood he was struck by machinery and sustained severe head injuries.

He was rushed to the Royal Perth Hospital where he died a short time later.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is aware of reports and stands ready to provide consular assistance. As with all cases, the Department does not comment on the detail of individual cases.
