An investigation is under way into an alleged assault in Cork city, in which a man was seriously injured.
The man was attacked on Colmcille Avenue, Mayfield on the northside of the city between the Old Youghal Road and Middle Glanmire Road, at around 4pm.
He sustained serious head injuries and was taken to Cork University Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.
A forensic and technical examination of the scene was carried and gardaí said they are harvesting CCTV footage from the vicinity.
A Garda spokeperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged assault which occurred in Mayfield, Cork at approximately 4pm on Wednesday.
"A male was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment. Enquiries are ongoing."
Gardaí have issued an appeal to motorists who were travelling in the area at the time and whose cars have dash-cameras to contact them.
