30 arrested during garda operation in Newcastle West

Thirty people were arrested this morning as part of a garda investigation into criminal activity and the sale and supply of drugs in Co Limerick.

Six houses were searched in the Newcastle West area as part of today's operation.

Drugs worth an estimated €5,000 were seized and a number of vehicles were seized.

One man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The 30 people were arrested for various offences, including outstanding bench warrants.

Those arrested in relation to bench warrants were due in court today, while two people are being detained in connection with recent theft and drug-related incidents.

Superintendent Michael Fleming, of the Limerick County Community Engagement Functional Area said: "Today's operation targeted persons in the Newcastle West area who are involved in criminality and the sale and supply of illegal drugs.

"The focus was to detect and arrest persons committing crime in the community and to ensure their activities are disrupted.

"I want to reassure all of those living and working in the Limerick County Community Engagement Functional Area of our commitment to keeping people safe and tackling those who engage in anti-social behaviour and criminal activity."
