A man has been hospitalised following an assault in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

The man, 40s, suffered non-life threatening injuries following the assault on Marlborough Street/Cathedral Street in Dublin 1 at around 1.10pm.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment for his injuries.

A second man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested in connection with the assault and is being held at a garda station in the Dublin city centre area.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
