The Mater Hospital in Dublin has said it is experiencing a systems problem and cannot access patients' Electronic Health Records.

It is asking the public to, where possible, avoid its emergency department and use other parts of the health service.

The hospital said that the IT issue means that patients who attend to the emergency department with non-urgent conditions are likely to experience lengthy waiting times.

The Mater's Rapid Injury Clinic in Smithfield has also been affected and is currently closed.

The hospital said that all other outpatient appointments are unaffected at this time and patients should attend as anticipated.

The Mater has apologised for any inconvenience and it working to rectify the issue as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for the HSE said there are currently no reports of any other hospitals experiencing IT issues.
