Residents evacuated after fire at Longford premises

Residents were evacuated from a premises in Co Longford following a fire in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services and gardaí were alerted to the fire at Grafton Court in Longford Town shortly before 1.30am.

Residents living in overhead apartments were safely evacuated.

The fire was brought under control by local fire services.

No injuries were reported.

The scene has been preserved for forensic and technical examinations.

Fianna Fáíl TD for Longford-Westmeath Joe Flaherty told RTÉ News that it was very lucky nobody was hurt in the fire.

He said around five businesses and ten to 12 residential buildings were damaged in the fire.
