Cork District Court has been told that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) are awaited in relation to a member of the Defence Forces who appeared in court earlier this year charged in connection with the seizure of upwards of €25,000 of cocaine at Collins Barracks in Cork city.
Shane Scanlon of Cooline Heights, Ballyvoloon, Cobh, Co Cork is charged with possession of a controlled drug, namely cocaine, at Old Youghal Road in Cork for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying it to another on 27 March last.
The 34-year-old is also charged with having cocaine unlawfully in his possession at Old Youghal Road on 27 March.
The alleged offences are contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Sgt John Kelleher told Cork District Court today that DPP directions are awaited in the "very recent" case.
Defence solicitor Frank Buttimer consented to a remand on bail for his client until 11 November next.
Mr Scanlon was remanded on bail until his next court appearance.
He last appeared at a special sitting of Cork District Court on 28 March. At that stage evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given by Garda Derry O'Brien from Anglesea Street Garda Station in Cork city.
Judge John King remanded Mr Scanlon on bail until his next court appearance.
