A man charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in Co Kildare last weekend has appeared in court again.
Valeriu Melnic, 23, with an address at Calliaghstown Lower, Rathcoole, Co Dublin, is accused of murdering Ion Daghi at an address in The Close, in Sallins Park on 12 May.
Mr Melnic appeared by videolink at Naas District Court with the proceedings translated for him by a Russian language interpreter.
He indicated through the interpreter that he had not yet seen a psychologist.
At the initial hearing, the court granted a request for a psychological report.
Sgt Dave Hanrahan told the court that he did not have directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Detective Garda Enda Coleman told the court that the investigation is moving fast and added that he was seeking a remand for two weeks.
Judge Desmond Zaidan said that while there is meaningful progress in the case, he did not expect the book to be ready in two weeks.
The court heard that Mr Melnic is the brother-in-law of the deceased and the defendant's mother and sister were in court for the brief hearing today.
Judge Zaidan sympathised with the two women, saying that a life had been lost and this issue would be decided by a jury.
He adjourned the case to May 23.
