A section of the M11 in Co Wicklow has reopened after a lorry turned over near the Rathnew exit.

Gardaí and other emergency services are at the scene of the incident, which happened between junctions 15 and 16 this afternoon.

This evening, there were reports of "severe delays" on the route.

The driver of the truck was uninjured and no other vehicles were involved.

Wicklow County Council said a full road closure was required to facilitate a clean-up and recovery operation.

Earlier, the council said diversions are in place.

The lorry was removed from the road around 7pm this evening although the clean-up operation is continuing.

In a post on social media, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) advised motorists to expect delays in the area.

TII said the incident occurred shortly before 3pm this afternoon. Motorists are asked to take alternative routes if possible.
