A German-born Jewish woman with Israeli citizenship who has lived in Ireland for more than five years has been deselected as a Social Democrats local election candidate.
Orli Degani was selected last July as a party candidate in the Dún Laoghaire Local Electoral Area.
However, she was taken off the party ticket last Friday after an internal review.
It is understood there was a feeling in the party that Ms Degani's views were no longer compatible with the Social Democrats' stance on the war in Gaza.
Officially the Social Democrats will only confirm that she is no longer a candidate.
In a statement Orli Degani said she was deselected "for reasons which are an affront to the values of equality and inclusivity I have come to know since immigrating to these shores".
She added that she had raised a concern that has been growing in the local Jewish community "where local people like me were feeling more and more unwelcome and unsafe in Ireland and in Dún Laoghaire".
"And I sought to constructively engage internally and raise these concerns," she said.
"I could not have expected what came next. I will be issuing a further statement in the coming days, after I take legal advice."
Ms Degani is now planning to run in next month's local elections in Dún Laoghaire as an independent candidate.
