Two houses have been evacuated and a third road is being closed due to flooding at Lough Funshinagh in Co Roscommon.
Two local roads are already closed and a regional road is closing tomorrow after extended lake flooding has reached an area near Curraghboy.
The road will close from 8am, with diversions and full closure from 11am. It is expected to remain closed for two to three months.
Roscommon County Council said it decided to temporarily close the R362 Coolnageer, Curraghboy, in the interest of public safety.
It also said: "There may be an increased likelihood of delays on these roads as a consequence. Emergency Services and local access only will be accommodated."
Francie Quine, General Services Supervisor for the Athlone Operational area who is carrying out the work, said there has been flooding in the area before but never from the lake.
He said the road is likely to be closed for two to three months and hopes it will reopen by 1 August.
"Roads in the area had been raised to negate flooding but the water level has passed it out now. Lake water this evening is at 69.32mm, the peak in 2021 was 69.03mm," he said.

Mr Quine confirmed that two homes were evacuated today, with one resident having no choice but to leave their bungalow as it was only a matter of hours before it would flood, with the whole area underneath it saturated.

He said relief barriers are up there today, but they will not work in the long term and the residents from the other house that was evacuated would not have access to it in another day or two.
"The flooding is vast," said Mr Quine.
"We started filling the road on Monday, we went back on Tuesday and it was flooded. We filled it again and went back on Wednesday and it was flooded. They had no choice but to leave."
