Revenue officers have seized around 7.3 million cigarettes at the Port of Cork.

The cigarettes, worth an estimated €6.1 million, were found in an unaccompanied trailer that had arrived from Zeebrugge in Belgium.

The 'Lambert and Butler' branded cigarettes represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €4.8 million.

They were discovered with the assistance of detector dog Rua.
