Thousands take part in Stand Together rally in Dublin city centre

Thousands of people are taking part in a Stand Together rally in Dublin city centre.

Among the groups represented are trade unions, pro-Palestine and anti-racist groups, refugee organisations and groups representing Travellers.

Crowds gathered at Parnell Square before marching across Dublin city centre to Merrion Square.

The Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, which has been holding rallies on Saturdays in Dublin since the start of the current conflict in Gaza, is taking part in today's event.

Palestinian flags, Irish tricolours and trade union banners are among the placard and flags carried by the crowd.

They have gathered on Merrion Square South to listen to speakers and musical performances.

During the rally, Bernard Joyce of the Irish Travelller Movement called for the passing of the Hate Speech Bill and a properly-resourced plan to tackle racism.

"We hope for a better future for our people by sharing our stories, advocating for our rights and fostering understanding standing in solidarity with you and those experiencing racism. We share the same vision for a better Ireland for all our people," he told the people gathered.
