Gardaí investigating a road incident in Shannon town yesterday afternoon, in which a ten-year-old boy was seriously injured, have questioned a man in connection with the incident.
The boy, who was a pedestrian, was struck by a van shortly after 2pm at Purcell Park.
Gardaí have confirmed that a man aged in his 20s was arrested and questioned about the incident, but has since been released.
Further inquiries are being carried out in connection with the incident.
The boy was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick at first, but was later transferred to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street to be treated for serious injuries.
A forensic examination was carried out at the scene, and the van involved was also examined.
The area was sealed off but has since reopened.
Gardaí in Shannon are investigating and have repeated their appeal for witnesses to help them with information.
