An investigation is under way into the death of an elderly man whose body was found in a house in Co Kerry.

The body of the man, aged in his 80s, was found at the house on the Tralee Road in Castlemaine.

Gardaí were called to the area after the alarm was raised and the house was immediately sealed off.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was brought to University Hospital Kerry and a post-mortem examination is due to take place, probably tomorrow.

The offices of the local coroner and the State Pathologist have been informed.

The house remains sealed off to allow a technical examination take place.
