An investigation is under way after a man was seriously injured after being assaulted in Limerick city at the weekend.

A man, who is aged in his 20s, was assaulted on Shannon Street shortly after midnight yesterday.

He is being treated at Cork University Hospital for serious injuries.

No arrests have been made.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen what happened in the Shannon Street area coming up to midnight yesterday to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400 the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
