Over €1.1m worth of cannabis seized in separate operations

Over €1.1 million worth of cannabis was seized over four separate operations this week.

The operations were carried out in Dublin, Kildare, Westmeath, and Limerick.

The largest of the four seizures, worth an estimated €500,000, was made in Clane, Co Kildare yesterday.

Gardaí searched a residential premises where they found 25kgs of the drug.

A woman in her late 30s was arrested and is being detained at a garda station in the county.

Also yesterday, 14.2kg of the drug worth almost €285,000 was found by Revenue inspectors in parcels at a premises in Dublin.

The parcels had arrived in Ireland from Thailand and were addressed to a number of areas around Dublin.

11.8kgs worth an estimated €236,000 was also found in Athlone yesterday with the help of Revenue's detector dog Bailey.

Those batches had been sent from France and Spain, and were destined for addresses in Dublin and Galway.

A further €90,000 worth of cannabis that had been sent from the US was seized at Shannon Airport earlier in the week.

A Revenue spokesperson said that investigations into its three seizures are ongoing.
