A man in his 40s is in a serious condition in hospital following an assault in Co Cavan in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí were alerted to a disturbance involving a group of people outside a premises at Holborn Hill, Belturbet, shortly after midnight.
A man in his mid-40s was treated at the scene for serious injuries and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital.
The scene has been preserved for forensic examination and gardaí say they are following definite lines of enquiry.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward and asked anyone with video footage of the incident to share it with them.
