A fisherman has died on a trawler, around 100 miles off the Kerry coast.
The man, who was Irish and in his late 20s, was on board his family's trawler which fishes out of a port in Co Cork.
It is understood he fell and suffered fatal injuries.
The Coast Guard's Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre at Valentia was contacted just after 3pm this morning. The trawler was around 90 miles off na Blascaodaí (the Blasket Islands) at the time, fishing for prawns in the Porcupine Basin.
It is understood the trawler is currently making its way back to port.
Chief Executive of the Irish South and West Fish Producers' Organisation Patrick Murphy appealed for the family's privacy to be respected.
He said the man had suffered his injuries in a freak accident.
Mr Murphy said the man and his family were well known and respected within the fishing community.
