Over 100 primary school children from Gaelscoileanna in Dublin 2, 4, 6 and 8 gathered outside the Dáil this morning demanding a Gaelcholáiste be established in their school area so they can access an Irish language secondary education.

General secretary of Conradh na Gaeilge Julian de Spáinn said that the Government has committed to double the number of children receiving their education through Irish in its Programme for Government.

He was among those calling for the immediate established of a Gaelcholáiste to support those seeking a secondary school education as Gaeilge in the south of the city.

The Department of Education has said that while there is sufficient places to accommodate demand in the existing Gaelcholáistí in the general South Dublin area,it is keeping the position under active review given the number of new gaelscoileanna which have opened in recent years.
