Man in critical condition after violent disorder incident in Galway

Gardaí in Co Galway are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Ballinasloe at the weekend in which a man in his 40s sustained serious injuries.

A number of people were involved in violent disorder at the Dunlo Hill/Fairgreen area of the town on Saturday night.

The injured man is being treated at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Four people were detained in the aftermath of the incident.

Three women in their teens and 20s were subsequently released, with files being prepared for consideration by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A fourth person, a man in his 20s, is being brought before Roscommon District Court today after being charged in connection with the assault.

Gardaí are asking any witnesses who were in the area between 11.30pm and midnight on Saturday to contact them.

An incident room has been set up at Ballinasloe Garda Station.
