Five people injured in Co Monaghan road crash

Five people have been injured in a crash in Co Monaghan.

The crash involving two cars happened on the R180 at Killarue, between Carrickmacross and Ballybay at around 10.15am.

A woman in her 50s, who was a passenger, in one of the cars was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, with serious injuries.

A woman in her 20s, who was the driver of this car, was also taken to Drogheda to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A woman in her 60s who was a passenger in the second car also received serious injuries.

The male driver of the second car and another female passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the road is currently closed.

Gardaí in Carrickmacross are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
