Police in Northern Ireland looking for a man who has been missing for 11 days have found a body.

Detectives searching for 21-year-old Lee Johnston said the body of a man had been found in Maghera, Co Derry.

Officers last night discovered a man's body close to Mullagh Park in Maghera where a house had been sealed off as part of a criminal investigation into his disappearance.

It is understood formal identification of the body and the post-mortem could take several days.

Mr Johnston's family has been informed of developments.

Officers remain at the scene.

Police said yesterday they had no information to suggest that Mr Johnston, last seen on 7 October, had come to harm.

However, police had begun a criminal investigation into his disappearance.

Two people, a man, aged 33, and a woman, 31, were arrested but were later released on police bail.

Mr Johnston had been seen in Maghera on 7 October at around 4pm in the afternoon.

Police also confirmed they had positive sightings of him in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, later the same day.

Superintendent Michael O'Loan told reporters earlier that Mr Johnston's disappearance was being treated as that of a "high risk missing person".

A house in Maghera had been sealed off and examined as part of the examination.

Mr Johnston is originally from the Coleraine area.
