A commemorative plaque has been unveiled to a Dublin firefighter who lost his life in the service over 85 years ago.
John 'Jack' Darmon, who was also a mechanic, died after being electrocuted while working on a service vehicle at Tara Street Fire Station on 23 August 1938.
Mr Darmon had also been a member of K 'Company, 3rd Battalion of the Dublin Brigade during the War of Independence.
Speaking at the unveiling of the plaque on Tara Street, Chief Fire Officer Dennis Keeley said: "Dublin Fire Brigade are delighted to have the opportunity to mark and remember Firefighter Darmon and welcome members of his family who have travelled here today for this occasion."
The Lord Mayor was represented by Cllr Tom Brabazon, who said the plaque also acknowledges "the great service that Jack’s successors in today’s Dublin Fire Brigade give to our city day in and day out".
The event was also attended by the Darmon family including his grandson Colin who travelled from Canada for the event.
