The Boomtown Rats headlined a sell-out concert in Cavan town last night to celebrate Cavan Day.

The outdoor gig was part of the Cavan Calling festival - a "celebration of all things Breffni" aimed at those living in Cavan, its diaspora and people with local ancestry.

Rats founding member Pete Briquette hails from Ballyjamesduff.

Together with bandmates, including original members Bob Geldof and Simon Crowe, he took to the stage at the Egg Market to play hits including "I Don't Like Mondays".

It was the first time the Cavan native performed in his home county with the band.

During their performance the band also paid tribute to Sinéad O’Connor.

The concert followed a street carnival earlier in the day, in a festival that hosted numerous free sporting, arts and cultural events in recent days.

Cavan Calling is now in it’s fourth year.

There was also an ecumenical service to mark the centenery of the home of Cavan GAA and commemorate the Cavan diaspora.
