Man remanded in custody over €700k drugs seizure

A man has been remanded in custody, charged with possession of drugs and possession of drugs for sale or supply, following a seizure of approximately €700,000 worth of suspected cannabis and cocaine in Summerhill in Co Meath.

Frank Fitzpatrick, 34, of Warrenstown Drive, Blanchardstown, Dublin, appeared before Judge Brendan Toale in the Dublin District Court.

Detective James Morrison told the court Mr Fitzpatrick was arrested at his home at 11.57am yesterday morning and he was brought to Trim Garda Station in Co Meath.

At 11.22am today, Detective Morrison said that he charged Mr Fitzpatrick with two counts of possession of drugs and two counts of possessing drugs for sale or supply.

No application for bail was made and an application for free legal aid was granted.

The accused was remanded in custody and he will appear in court again at Trim District Court via video link on Tuesday.

The charges relate to drugs seized at Kelly's Timber Yard, Springvalley, in Summerhill, Co Meath, on Wednesday evening.

As part of Operation Tara, gardaí from the Meath Divisional Drugs Unit with assistance from the Trim and Navan Detective units took part in a search of the premises at around 5.30pm.

They found around €600,000 of suspected cannabis and around €100,000 of suspected cocaine.
