A body has been recovered in the Dooagh area of Oileán Acla, Co Mayo, following an air and ground search for missing teenager Sebastian Palma Sigmond.

The 18-year-old Mexican national had been holidaying with family for the past week.

A search had been under way over the weekend after Sebastian went missing on Oileán Acla last Friday evening when he failed to return from a walk.

A number of agencies were involved in the search including Coast Guard units from Westport, Ballyglass and Acaill, along with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), gardaí and many local volunteers.

The Sligo-based Rescue 118 helicopter was deployed again today around the Sliabh Mór mountain.

A forensic air and ground search took place, combing the coastline for any sign of the missing teenager.

A body was recovered shortly this evening.

Sebastian had been visiting a family member who is a long time resident in the village of Dooagh on Oileán Acla.
