Fine Gael Councillor Eddie Hoare has been elected Mayor of Galway at the Annual General Meeting of the City Council.
The 35-year-old is one of the youngest representatives to be selected as the first citizen of the city.
Cllr Hoare, a former Galway senior footballer, was first elected in 2019.
He succeeds party colleague Clodagh Higgins in the role.
Cllr Hoare assumes office as part of a pact involving Fine Gael, Labour, the Green Party and a number of Independents.
Non-party Councillor Donal Lyons has been elected as the deputy mayor.

Cllr Hoare said he hopes to help reconnect voters with council business, by securing budgetary approval to allow meetings to be live-streamed to the public.
He said achieving clarity in relation to the proposed N6 city ring road is one of the items at the top of his Mayoral agenda, along with ensuring rapid progress on a number of public transport and housing initiatives in the city.
