A book has been returned to Portlaoise Library, 47 years after it was borrowed.
The book entitled "Ireland from Great Famine to the Treaty of 1921" was due to be returned on 9 September 1976.
Instead, the book found its way back to the library just a few days ago.
Fines for overdue books were abolished in 2019 so the reader will not face a hefty bill.
Portlaoise Library is reminding readers it is never too late to return books.
In a social media post, the library said: "If you have any long-lost library books to return to the library, you can do so completely guilt free."
