The Irish National Seismic Network (INSN) has confirmed a 2.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in Co Donegal during the early hours of this morning.
It says the 2.5 magnitude earthquake occurred just after 1.30am at a depth of approximately 5km near Glenveagh National Park.
The INSN says it has received reports that the event was felt throughout the Donegal area and was recorded by seismic stations across the country.
The main goal of the INSN is to detect and locate earthquakes in and near Ireland, but it also detects large earthquakes that happen anywhere around the world.
Measurements from Irish stations contribute to the global research into these earthquakes.
The INSN is asking people who felt this morning's event to make a report on its website.
