Gardaí have arrested three men and seized drugs, ammunition, a car and cash as part of a major security operation aimed at targeting the activities of a gang based on the southside of Limerick city suspected of being involved in the illegal drugs trade and other criminal activity.
A total of 18 properties in both Limerick city and county were searched and items were seized as part of an intelligence lead operation by gardaí and officers from the Criminal Assets Bureau, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Garda armed support unit, backed up by the army.
Two large areas of open land in the Southill area of Limerick city were also searched by gardaí and army personnel.
Gardaí have confirmed that property seized during the course of these searches include a BMW, an item of designer jewellery, a number of electronic items and six shotgun cartridges.
Drugs were also seized including approximately €64,600 of suspected amphetamine and approximately €89,600 of suspected cannabis.
Approximately €76,580 in cash was recovered and action was taken by the Gardaí and CAB teams to freeze a further €18,000 held in credit union accounts.
Three men aged in their 30s and 40s were arrested during the operation and are being questioned at a number of garda stations in Limerick.
