Nearly €4 million worth of cocaine has been seized by gardaí and customs officers in Co Cork.

Over 55kg of the drug – worth more than €3.85m - was seized at Ringaskiddy Port earlier this afternoon.

The drugs were found concealed in the refrigeration unit of a maritime container originating from Ecuador.

They were located with the assistance of Revenue's Maritime Unit and X-Ray scanner, as well as drug detector dog Merlin.

Further investigations into the seizure are continuing.
