Gardaí targeting drug trafficking networks across the country have seized €40,000 worth of cannabis herb after stopping and searching a car on the M7 motorway in Portlaoise.
The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, was arrested and is being questioned under Section Two of the Criminal Justice Act.
He can be detained for up seven days.
This seizure is part of Operation Tara which aims to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels.
