Two killed in separate road crashes in Mayo and Kerry

Two men have been killed in separate road crashes in counties Mayo and Kerry.

A man in his 40s died following a collision near Claremorris in Co Mayo in the early hours of this morning.

The collision occurred around 12.25am on the N60 at Ballygowan.

The man, who was driving a van, died from his injuries and his body was removed to Mayo University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road was closed for a technical examination, but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to witnesses, particularly any road users who may have video footage (including dash cam) and were travelling between the Claremorris road and Ballygowan Bridge between midnight and 12.30am, to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937 2080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Separately, a man in his 30s was injured in a crash at around 6pm yesterday, on the N71 Kenmare to Bantry road at Drominassig.

The man, who has been named locally as Frank Pilkington, of Dunkerrin Woods, Kenmare, was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The road is closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are also appealing for witnesses to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 6671160, the Garda Confidential Line or any garda station.

Elsewhere, gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses after a man died from injuries sustained in a collision in Co Waterford last month.

The pedestrian, who was in his 50s, was taken to University Hospital Hospital following the incident, which occurred on the R680 at Butlerstown at around 7pm on Tuesday, 31 January.

Gardaí are appealing to witnesses, particularly any road users with video footage (including dash-cam) and who were in the area between 6.45pm and 7.15pm on 31 January, to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
