The CEO of Peter McVerry Trust, Pat Doyle, has announced his intention to resign later this year.

Mr Doyle held the role of CEO at the housing and homelessness charity for 18 years, having been appointed in 2005.

The charity supports more than 12,000 people per year and is active in 28 of the 31 local authorities across Ireland.

Announcing his decision, Mr Doyle said he was an "absolutely fantastic experience to work alongside Fr Peter McVerry, the participants, staff and the chairpersons and the wider members of the board of directors and committee members".

Mr Doyle says his plan is to now return to his original work in the sector, which will see him work on a one-to-one basis with clients.

Fr Peter McVerry said he would like to thank Mr Doyle for his "enormous contribution he has made to the lives of vulnerable people".

"He has always ensured that the charity has been well placed to respond to the needs of people on the margins. He has delivered time and again always working on the next project or service that would help those in need," Fr McVerry said.

The organisation will shortly commence a process to appoint Mr Doyle's successor.
