A concert to say thank you to emergency services personnel who worked at the scene of the explosion in Creeslough in October, has been announced for January.

'Together for Creeslough' is also planned as a special night for the families of those who lost loved ones and the community as a whole to look forward to.

Ten people, including three children, were killed in the blast at the Applegreen Service Station in Creeslough on 7 October.

Featuring Brian McFadden, whose father was from the village, Keith Duffy, Lisa McHugh and Brian Kennedy among others, the concert will be held in the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny on Monday 30 January.

Former Westlife star McFadden joined the launch of the event in Letterkenny via video link and said: "I wanted to do something myself to show my appreciation to the people and what they went through and what they did and music is what we do."

Fr John Joe Duffy, Parish Priest of Creeslough said at the launch that "Creeslough wants to say a very big thank you to all those who came to our aid. The thing that I have heard so much among the families is that the families wanted to say thank you. They wanted to say thank you to each and every person.

"Sometimes they can be forgotten but we have not forgotten the fact that so many people came and risked their own lives and so this is our way of saying thank you.

"I want to thank all the artistes and musicians for coming together and making this event happen. Coming together is so very important because a burden shared is a burden eased somewhat. I believe this is part of the ongoing healing process that we have been involved in," he said

The gala night will be co-hosted by Moya Brennan of Clannad and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh.

Moya Brennan said she hoped the music on the night would reassure the families that the public are still thinking of them.

She said the night will show "our appreciation for everybody, including the first responders and for the families and to let them know that we are with them. It's something that they will have to go through for quite a long time so we would just like to extend our hand out to them".
